Tomahawk Elementary School

Project Background

Tomahawk Elementary School is the fifth and final elementary school to be rebuilt as part of Shawnee Mission School District’s long-term facilities improvement efforts, funded through a $264 million bond approved by voters in 2021. The district has been steadily modernizing its elementary schools over the past several years, creating updated learning environments designed to support today’s students and educators.

For the Tomahawk Elementary project, Curriculum Director Dr. Brittany Gonser selected furniture with the school’s learning objectives in mind, helping create flexible, functional spaces that support the way students learn. The project was completed in summer 2025, bringing a newly designed learning environment to the Tomahawk Elementary community.
